The European Investment Bank and Enpal Launch €100 Million Solar Securitisation

November 25, 2024

The European Investment Bank (EIB) and its subsidiary, the European Investment Fund (EIF), have partnered with German energy company Enpal to create Europe’s first public solar securitisation, valued at €100 million.

Making Solar Energy Accessible
High upfront costs often discourage European homeowners from adopting solar energy. To tackle this, Enpal and the EIB Group have introduced an innovative financing model for private solar systems, paving the way for affordable clean energy.
This new approach is comparable to how car loans once made vehicle ownership accessible to the general public. By securitising solar assets, the model creates a fresh asset class, enabling more homeowners to switch to renewable energy.

EIB and EIF Investment
In this initiative, the EIB invested €50 million as an anchor investor. The EIF contributed an embedded guarantee for an additional €50 million, reinforcing the transaction’s financial stability.

About Enpal
Enpal, a leading German clean-energy company, offers an all-in-one renewable energy solution. Its services include solar panels, battery systems, EV chargers, heat pumps, and a smart energy manager. The company also provides financing and maintenance options, simplifying the shift to renewable energy for its customers.
This collaboration between Enpal and the EIB Group highlights a significant step toward making green energy more accessible across Europe.
