SumUp acquires the digital catering service Tiller

February 4, 2021

SumUp, an English fintech operating in the digital payments sector, announced the acquisition of Tiller, one of the well-known digital services in Europe for merchants and restaurateurs. The two companies will be able to work in perfect synergy to support Italian restaurateurs and the rest of Europe. Following the measures adopted at the national level to combat the health emergency, Italian restaurateurs have had to reinvent themselves, adopt delivery and take away formulas or seek new original methods to maintain the relationship with customers and ensure the continuity of their business. In this context, the acquisition of Tiller, one of the main players in Italy, France and Spain, provides SumUp with even more innovative solutions to support a strategic sector for the whole country such as catering.

The acquisition also represents the most recent of a series of strategic agreements concluded by SumUp with the aim of strengthening its product portfolio with specific tools for small traders: it comes, in fact, after the acquisition of Debitoor in 2018 ( accounting and billing), in 2019 by Shoplo (e-commerce), and in 2020 by Goodtill (catering and hospitality). Since the beginning of the health crisis, both SumUp and Tiller have taken steps to offer tailor-made tools and solutions for small businesses, as well as services dedicated to the catering sector, with the aim of ensuring the continuity of the businesses of merchants and the loyalty of their clients. To have chosen the numerous functions of Tiller are, among others, realities such as Barmare in Milan, La Filetteria Italiana, Atelier De Nerli and Ichi station.

SumUp has also implemented innovative solutions and products to support artisans and merchants in addressing the restrictions imposed by the health crisis. The introduction of link payments and billing tools, the new digital purchase functionality through the “Online Shop” and the ability to sell vouchers through Google, Facebook and Instagram have allowed small business owners to receive payments in complete safety and continue their business activities.
